COVID-19 Update – June 18th, 2020

Aruba’s diligent reopening will happen in phases, monitored closely by the Government of Aruba and the Department of Public Health, and the following are our most updated reopening dates by region and country:

June 15, 2020 – Bonaire & Curacao
July 1, 2020 – Canada
July 1, 2020 – Europe
July 1, 2020 – The Caribbean (Excluding the Dominican Republic & Haiti)
July 10, 2020 – The United States of America

Official opening dates for other markets, including South America and Central America, have yet to be determined, but hopefully soon! Aruba’s health and safety protocols will be revisited and reevaluated on an ongoing basis. COVID-19 Update – May 14th, 2020

Effective April 19, 2020 (0:00 hrs UTC-4) up to and including May 31, 2020, it is prohibited to transport passengers by air to Aruba. Exemption hereto applies only to legal residents of Aruba on flights that are approved by the Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba. There are no travel restrictions in place for passengers departing from Aruba and there are no travel restrictions in place for duty airlines crew for flight planning purposes.

On May 8, 2020 the Government of Aruba announced a tentative re-opening of the borders for inbound travel. As of now this is scheduled to be between June 15 and July 1, 2020. The aforementioned re-opening target date is subject to change as we may consider additional precautionary measures as needed.

Important COVID-19 virus effects update – March 22, 2020

Effective 23 March 2020 (0:00 hrs UTC-4) up to and including 31 March 2020, it is prohibited to transport passengers by air to Aruba who are not legal residents of Aruba.

It is allowed to transport only passengers to Aruba who are legal residents to Aruba.

Note: Legal residents of Aruba can prove this by showing an Aruban driving license or Aruban ID card at check in or baggage drop off.

AUA Airport: Important COVID-19 virus effects update for travelers – March 20, 2020

ORANJESTAD – Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) company that operates and manages Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA Airport) has been following all instructions given by the Government of Aruba (GOA) in reference to the prevention of the further spreading of the COVID-19 virus.

The instructions include a travel prohibition for arriving passengers, with exception of Aruban citizens who want to return to Aruba in the midst of the COVID-19 worldwide crisis.

This doesn’t affect departing passengers directly, even though the airport has already noticed a different passenger behavior than what is advisable. Passengers are still requested to be at the airport 3 hours prior their flight, and not earlier.

Airports worldwide are handling a large volume of passengers who had to shorten their travel plans in order to return home earlier than expected due to the various travel bans around the world.

AUA Airport in its efforts to best assist operating airlines has been keeping all airlines and passengers updated with the latest developments and measures, as these change on a daily basis. Even though the best advice remains for all passengers to be in direct contact with their airline, AUA Airport is aware that airlines are also experiencing a high volume of urgent requests and questions.

Therefore passengers are advised to follow AUA Airport via its social media platforms and website in order to remain informed of the measures that affect traveling to and from Aruba as a supporting means of communication.

It’ s also important to mention that AUA Airport has a supporting role in the screening of arriving passengers by the Department of Health (DVG). As a matter of course AUA Airport has been providing complete cooperation and assistance in the process and will continue doing so until this is required.

Travelers can be assured that the cleanliness of the airport and the safety of the airport passengers and staff are of utmost importance. Additional internal measures are being adhered to in order to guarantee this.

Should there be any more changes in the instructions and measures by the Government of Aruba, AUA airport shall keep passengers informed via www.airportaruba.com and via its social media channels.

COVID-19 situation UPDATE 2 – March 15, 2020

On March 13, 2020 the Government of Aruba (GOA) officially confirmed the first two cases that were tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

On March 15, 2020 the Government announced a complete prohibition for all international incoming passengers starting mid-night tomorrow (16th to the 17th), ending on the 31st of March 2020.

This prohibition will entail the following:

Residents of Aruba can continue to come in, however a travel advisory shall be instituted for residents basically advising them not to travel.
Cargo will continue to be able to be flown in.
Relief flights will be possible as long as the airline is willing to operate them.

We understand that you may have a lot of questions at this time with regard to certain aspects related to the airport operation as a result of the recent developments. We do advise that you contact your airline directly to verify if your flights to/from Aruba will continue as planned or if there are any changes as effects of the recent measures taken by the GOA.

We will continue to provide you with the latest developments and updates as they become available. COVID-19 situation UPDATE – March 15, 2020

On March 13, 2020 the Government of Aruba (GOA) officially confirmed the first two cases that were tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. As a result and as per GOA measures, the following travel restrictions apply for travel to Aruba:

Effective March 16, 2020 passengers who have been in the following countries for the last 14 days: China (including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan), Singapore, Iran, Korea (rep.), Japan, The European Union, Great Britain, Switzerland and Norway, are not allowed to travel to Aruba. This travel prohibition does not apply to residents from Aruba.

COVID-19 situation UPDATE – March 14, 2020

Yesterday afternoon the Government of Aruba (GOA) officially confirmed the first two cases that were tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. As a result, the GOA has taken the following measures that will impact operations at Queen Beatrix International Airport:

Effective March 16th, 2020 (0:00 hrs UTC -4) until March 31st, 2020, it is prohibited to transport passengers to Aruba who within fourteen (14) days before his or her check-in for a flight bound to Aruba has been in the following countries/regions: China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), Singapore, Iran, Korea (Rep), Japan, the European Union, Great Britain, Switserland or Norway. The above travel prohibition does not apply to:

Passengers who are legal residents of Aruba (passenger can prove this by showing an Aruban driving license or Aruban ID card), or
Passengers born in Aruba (place of birth is stated in passport).

Restriction arrivals from Europe, except for Aruban residents, starting March 15 through March 31, 2020.
Screening at airport for arriving passengers starting March 14, 2020.

The rapidly changing information about the current worldwide COVID-19 outbreak on travel restrictions locally and abroad are understandably creating concerns amongst our travelers, airport stakeholders, airport community and our airport staff. As Aruba Airport’s operator and manager, AAA continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely, in further coordination and cooperation with the local Department of Public Health (DVG), the Department of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Tourism, Health and Sports. We also listen carefully to any questions and concerns any of our travelers and other airport users may have and try to react hereto as swiftly and effectively as possible.

We want you to know that your health and safety are our priority. As such we would like to share the following updates which may further assist you in considering your next travel to and from Aruba whilst making use of our airport facilities or whilst managing your operation at our airport.

The cleanliness of our airport facilities is of the utmost importance to travelers and airport users and as such have always implemented all efforts in making sure that our terminal facilities are comfortable and clean. We realize that during these trying times this is even more important. Next to our daily cleaning procedures, we have increased cleaning frequencies in all public areas, and we have added additional sanitizer machines and soap dispensers in strategic areas. Our cleaning staff are also instructed to have more rigorous cleaning routines. Regular cleaning remains one of the most important preventive measures that can be taken. Basic health tips, in coordination with the DVG, are shared throughout the arrival and departure areas in order to ensure that all are duly aware and informed hereof whilst traveling through and using our facilities. AAA is also setting up a medical screening checkpoint, in coordination with the DVG on site at the airport.

We have also kept not only our airport stakeholders and community informed about preventive measures that can be taken to keep themselves and their staff safe and healthy by keeping them updated on the latest developments with the COVID-19 outbreak, but we have also made sure that our own staff is duly advised hereof. We’re encouraging not only our own sick team members to stay home but have also recommended that the employers within the airport community consider this same measure for their teams. Furthermore, we have also asked our own team not to go on a business trip to high-risk areas with a negative travel advice and to other destinations, only after discussing this with their manager and determine together what to do. The same is recommended to our airport relations. Internally we have also set up a WhatsApp chat group which keeps our team informed of the latest developments on protective measures with relation to the outbreak.

A dedicated team has been activated within AAA which has been monitoring the situation in real time and will proceed with preventive measures as deemed necessary. We will continue to activate all protocols defined by the World Health Organization, the Directorate of Civil Aviation and the Department of Public Health (DVG).
